Six Sentence Sunday 11-4-12

Welcome to my Sunday Six!

In this snippet from DogDaze, Nocona has just asked Ditsy if she believes her beloved, devoted, eccentric and aristocratic British family will ever accept him--the rough-and-ready foundling with unknown, but decidedly American ancestry, and, from her family's point of view, an uncertain future. He makes the hard choice...
Ditsy shook her head, trying to get some control over the situation. “I…no.”

Nocona cupped her face with his hands. “Ditsy, I would do anything for you. Anything. I don’t have much, but I can give you this: I can give you your family. Even if it kills me.”
Thanks for stopping by! As always, I'd love to have your comments. Here's the link to return to Six Sentence Sunday.

From childhood, I've had passing fascinations with nature, some very ordinary (bird-watching, wildflower pressing), others likely to enthrall only me (acorn collecting, ant-watching). Recently I've been collecting clouds at sunset.

At least twice a week, I dash out of work, racing against traffic and the encroaching evening to my secret little parking spot near a lesser-used overpass. I hike up the bridge and pull out my camera, then feast on the enormous Texas sky. Here are two pics of a recent foray--same sky, different directions.

A Harsh Reality

Howdy, Sixers! It's a cool, crisp autumn day here in Texas, and Six Sentence Sunday is  great way to start it!

This week's snippet continues the story of Ditsy and Nocona in DOGDAZE. Nocona has just met her aristocratic family, and is coming to a hard realization.
Her education in America had been an attempt to distance herself from her family—reasoning that had confused him before but was now painfully clear. She wanted distance, not amputation. Family, biological family especially, couldn’t be left behind. It was there in the way you walked, the color of your skin, the sound of your voice. It came with you, wherever you went.
And the lack of a family… that clung to you, too.

Note: this image is a photo I took of a  work of Houston street-art muralist Daniel Anguilu.

Hi everyone! Time for another Six Sentence Sunday. This week I'm continuing the story of Nocona and Ditsy. After Ditsy's father threatened to destroy their relationship, they leavet Cromleigh and are on the way to visit Ditsy's mother's ancestral home of Abbeymere. En route,  Nocona  yields to Ditsy's warm persuasion. They pull off the road into an empty field for some much needed time together...
